Grape varieties and terroir

The 2005 Château d'Yquem is made primarily from Sémillon (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc (20%). The Sémillon, thanks to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), gives the wine richness, a silky texture, and powerful aromas, while the Sauvignon Blanc adds a touch of freshness and beautiful acidity. Yquem's terroir of gravelly, clayey, and sandy soils allows the grapes to ripen slowly, thus concentrating all the richness and complexity of the flavors.

Tasting

Dress :
Intense and luminous golden color, with amber reflections which testify to the concentration and richness of the wine.
Nose :
The nose is opulent and complex, with aromas of exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), candied fruits (apricot, peach), honey, flowers, and vanilla. Subtle touches of caramel, nuts, and spices enrich this fascinating bouquet, creating a captivating and refined olfactory experience.
Mouth :
The attack is smooth and sweet, marked by a beautiful concentration of candied fruit, honey, and caramel flavors. The palate is rich and full, perfectly balanced by an invigorating acidity that brings freshness. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and beeswax, creating a feeling of depth and finesse.

Storage Potential

The 2005 Château d'Yquem in the 3 L (Double Magnum) format has exceptional aging potential. This wine can be stored for 30 to 50 years, and as it matures, it will develop aromas of dried fruit, truffle, honey, and nuts, while refining its texture to offer an even more refined experience. The Double Magnum format guarantees optimal maturation and even evolution, making this wine even more precious over time.

Food and Wine Pairings

The 2005 Château d'Yquem in its 3L format pairs perfectly with refined dishes such as foie gras, caviar, blue cheeses, or candied fruit desserts such as tarte tatin or dried fruit clafoutis. It can also be enjoyed on its own, to fully appreciate its richness and complexity.
