Grape varieties and terroir

The 2005 Château d'Yquem is composed primarily of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. The Sémillon, thanks to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), gives the wine its richness and silky texture, while the Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness, liveliness, and complexity. Yquem's exceptional terroir of gravel, sand, and clay promotes perfect ripening of the grapes, thus concentrating all the aromatic richness and complex flavors characteristic of great Sauternes wine.

Tasting

Dress :
Brilliant golden color, with amber reflections that testify to the richness and concentration of the wine.
Nose :
The nose is highly complex, revealing opulent aromas of exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), candied fruits (apricot, peach), honey, and flowers. Notes of vanilla, caramel, nuts, and spices enrich this bouquet, creating a captivating and refined olfactory experience.
Mouth :
The attack is smooth and sweet, marked by a beautiful concentration of candied fruit, honey, and caramel flavors. The palate is full and round, perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity that gives it great liveliness. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and beeswax, creating a sensation of depth and finesse.
