Grape varieties and terroir

From a vineyard ideally located between the limestone slopes of Pavie and Ausone, the Château La Gaffelière 2018 is a classic blend from the right bank:

65% Merlot for flesh and roundness
35% Cabernet Franc for energy and freshness
The vines, aged on average 40 years, are rooted in clay-limestone soils with a high active limestone content, providing structure and precision.

Tasting

A sunny and balanced vintage. The color is deep, intense garnet. The nose opens with ripe black fruits (blackberry, black cherry), floral notes (violet), and a subtly smoky touch. On the palate, the wine is distinguished by its controlled density, velvety tannins, superb freshness, and a lingering finish with aromas of graphite and truffle. A great terroir wine, precise and distinguished.

Storage Potential

Already seductive after a generous decanting, this 2018 will gain in complexity over the next 15 to 25 years in magnum. Prolonged aging will reveal all its mineral brilliance and aromatic nobility.

Food and Wine Pairings

Pair with herb-roasted rack of lamb, porcini mushroom risotto, or tournedos Rossini. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-laced autumn dishes.
