Grape varieties and terroir

The 2022 Château d'Yquem is the result of a meticulous blend of:
Sémillon, providing richness and smoothness
Sauvignon Blanc, providing freshness and liveliness
The Yquem terroir is based on a unique clay-gravel soil, allowing for optimal drainage and slow, concentrated ripening of the grapes. Its ideal exposure encourages the development of noble rot, essential to the creation of this exceptional wine.

Tasting

Color: Intense gold with golden highlights, dazzling with brilliance.
Nose: Of rare complexity, it reveals roasted notes, the signature of Botrytis cinerea. Aromas of candied pear and lemon, orange marmalade combine with a captivating floral palette, where linden, frangipani and lily of the valley mingle.
Palate: Strikingly intense, the attack is lively and fresh, reminiscent of apricot jam. The texture is dense, creamy and enveloping, giving way to nuances of beeswax, caramel and quince paste. The finish, of infinite length, is distinguished by an elegant salinity and refined bitters, enhancing the candied bitter orange, the emblematic signature of Yquem wines.

Storage Potential

The 2022 Château d'Yquem is a wine with great ageing potential, capable of evolving magnificently over several decades. It can be enjoyed today for its aromatic richness, but it will reach its peak in 50 years or more, developing even more complex and refined notes.

Food and Wine Pairings

This sweet gem pairs perfectly with:
Pan-fried or semi-cooked foie gras, enhanced by the sweetness of the wine
Roasted lobster and saffron sauce, for a sumptuous land-sea pairing
Bresse poultry with cream and morels, an elegant combination
Citrus desserts, such as candied orange tart or Grand Marnier soufflé

Description

The 2022 Château d'Yquem is an exceptional vintage, marked by extreme climatic conditions that forged a powerful, sunny wine of rare exuberance. "The summers of yesteryear burn in the bottles of Yquem ," a phrase that resonates more than ever in this vintage sculpted by heat and prolonged drought. Yet, the magic of Yquem still works: when the saving rain of October 15 triggered the development of Botrytis cinerea , a magnificent harvest was able to take place, giving birth to a legend in the making.

The Château d'Yquem 2022 bears the signature of the great suns, an exceptional aromatic intensity and a solid structure which ensures impressive longevity.
