Grape varieties and terroir

The 2005 Château d'Yquem is composed primarily of Sémillon (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc (20%). The Sémillon, affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), gives the wine its richness, creamy texture, and intense aromas, while the Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness and bright acidity. Yquem's terroir of gravel, clay, and sand allows the grapes to ripen slowly while concentrating the flavors, giving the wine a rare complexity and depth.

Tasting

Dress :
Golden color, bright and luminous, with amber reflections which testify to the richness and concentration of the wine.
Nose :
The nose is highly complex, with aromas of exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), candied fruits (apricot, peach), honey, flowers, and vanilla. Subtle hints of caramel, nuts, and spices enrich this elegant bouquet, creating a fascinating and refined olfactory experience.
Mouth :
The attack is smooth and sweet, marked by a beautiful concentration of candied fruit, honey, and caramel flavors. The palate is rich and full, but perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity that brings liveliness. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and beeswax, leaving a feeling of depth and finesse.

Storage Potential

The 2005 Château d'Yquem in the 1.5L (Magnum) format has exceptional aging potential. Thanks to the slow maturation allowed by the Magnum format, this wine will continue to improve for several decades. This vintage could be stored for 30 to 50 years, and as it matures, it will develop aromas of dried fruits, truffles, honey, and nuts, while refining its texture to offer an even more refined experience.

Food and Wine Pairings

This exceptional wine pairs perfectly with refined dishes such as foie gras, caviar, blue cheeses, or candied fruit desserts like tarte tatin or dried fruit clafoutis. It can also be enjoyed on its own, to fully appreciate its richness and complexity.
