Grape varieties and terroir

On its deep gravel, the Gruaud Larose vineyard produces wines of great longevity. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, giving this 1888 a powerful and distinguished tannic structure, typical of the great wines for aging of the era.

Tasting

Color: Deep, tiled, with amber and mahogany highlights, the signature of very old vintages.

Nose: Fascinating complexity combining old leather, blond tobacco, damp undergrowth, black truffle, dried fig, candied fruit and precious cedar.

Palate: Silky, subtle, with melted tannins. Remarkable harmony between sweetness and minerality. Long, persistent finish, marked by a moving nobility.
