Grape varieties and terroir

The 2005 Château d'Yquem is made primarily from Sémillon (80%), a grape variety that, thanks to noble rot, develops complex aromas and a silky texture. The Sauvignon Blanc (20%) brings a touch of freshness and well-balanced acidity, perfectly balancing the richness of the wine. Yquem's terroir, made up of gravel and clay, favors the concentration of flavors and aromas in the grapes, thus offering a rare and inimitable complexity.

Tasting

Dress :
Intense, bright and luminous golden color, with amber reflections that testify to the great maturity of the wine.
Nose :
The nose is rich and complex, blending aromas of exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), candied fruits (apricot, peach), honey, vanilla, and hazelnut. Delicate notes of beeswax and caramel mingle with floral and spicy notes, adding depth and finesse to the overall experience.
Mouth :
The attack is smooth and generous, with an enveloping sweetness that is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity. The palate is full and rich, with flavors of candied fruit, honey, hazelnut, and caramel. The finish is long and elegant, with great finesse, with a lingering sensation of freshness.

Storage Potential

The 2005 Château d'Yquem has excellent aging potential. Although already delicious, it will continue to improve for several decades. This wine can be stored for 30 years or more, and as the years go by, it will develop more complex aromas of dried fruit, nuts, pastries, and honey.

Food and Wine Pairings

This exceptional wine pairs perfectly with refined dishes such as foie gras, caviar, blue cheeses, but also with desserts made with candied fruit or hazelnuts, such as an almond tart or a dried fruit clafoutis. It can also be enjoyed on its own to fully appreciate its complexity and richness.
